Motorcycle gangs will be rolling into the tranquil New Brunswick tourist town of St. Andrews this weekend, but police say they aren't expecting any trouble.

The Hells Angels will lead the gangs that include Bacchus from New Brunswick, Charlottetown Harley Club, Roadriders, East Coast Riders and the Highlanders to the small coastal community.

The Charlotte County Mariners, the local club, is hosting the event that will bring bikers from as far away as the United States and Ontario.

Police are monitoring the situation, said RCMP Sgt. Gilles Blinn.

Similar events have been hosted in the community previously, Blinn said, and officials aren't expecting any problems.

"Typically from past experience where there's gatherings like this, other than the odd noise complaint, things go pretty smooth," Blinn said.

Blinn said he would describe the event as a gathering of "motorcycle enthusiasts," some of whom may be affiliated with a biker gang.

Additional officers will be working in the community over the weekend, he said. He declined to comment on how many.

"We expect everyone to be on their best behaviour," Blinn said. "We've made some modifications to our shifts and manpower and so on to monitor this situation."

About 100 bikes are expected to begin arriving in St. Andrews on Friday. The event will conclude on Sunday.

The run was held in Moncton last year and police reported no major incidents.

St. Andrews Mayor John Craig said he's comfortable with the increased police presence and isn't worried about the event being hosted in the community.
