London: Cops seize Hells Angels club house

Police seized the Hells Angels club house in the city's southeast acting on a Superior Court Justice order, Wednesday (July 23).

Police took possession of the home located at 14 Swinyard St., this morning, enforcing a preservation order obtained by the Ministry of the Attorney General under the Civil Remedies Act.

The sole owner of the property is Robert Barletta, a full-patch Hells Angels member, police said, and manager of the London strip club, The Beef Baron.

The seizure was carried out by the Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit and the Provincial Biker Enforcement Unit, both which includes London Police Service members as well as officers from across Ontario.

In a media release issued by London police, local authorities submitted a file to the Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities office with Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General.

"The file consisted of information related to the activities of the London Chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club since 2000," police said.

An order to seize the London chapter of the Hells Angels clubhouse was granted July 14, police said, adding the process is part of a civil court process and allegations still to be proven in court will be made in order to have the property forfeiture to the crown on behalf of the province.

Police are enforcing the court order, "taking possession, preserving, securing and restricting entry into the clubhouse," police said.

The issue is scheduled for Triage Court in Toronto, Aug. 1, when authorities will seek a motion to extend the preservation order until a decision can be made regarding the forfeiture application, police said.
