Pre-trial for Project Underground could start in August

Court cases tied to Project Underground, a multi-agency drug sweep targeting the Peterborough cocaine trade, should proceed to pre-trials early next month, the federal Crown said Friday.

Robert Pammett Sr., 58, who police have linked to the defunct Ontario branch of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang, was one of 10 people arrested in the sting.

Police arrested Pammett March 26 and seized his "fortified" McNamara Road home.

Since then, three people pleaded guilty and were sentenced including his son Robert Pammett Jr., 21, and his daughter Cherie Pammett, 34.

Facing 16 charges including trafficking cocaine and possessing a restricted handgun, Pammett appeared in Ontario court of justice via video yesterday and was adjourned to July 24 to set a date for a judicial pre-trial.

Co-accuseds Ronald Crofts, 42, Trevor Forster, 29, Wanda Witkowski, 35 and Krystina McMillan, 27, appeared yesterday as well and will return to court July 30.

Brian Burrett, who faces 14 drug-related charges, will appear in court Aug. 8.

Federal prosecutor Barry Nordin said the Crown would like to begin pre-trials in early August.
