Hells Angels barbeque leads to fight, one arrest
Medford ? The Hells Angels descended on Medford Sunday for a backyard barbeque on Stanley Avenue, leading to one arrest and leaving behind a thoroughly stomped rival gang member in their wake.
Police arrested Steven Collins, 49, 5 Tsienneto Road, Derry, N.H., after he allegedly beat a member of the Devil?s Disciples. Collins was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and one count of assault and battery after police detained him at the Getty gas station on Main Street.
?I?ve been here for two years and it?s a very quiet street,? said Jennifer Dicorcia, of Stanley Avenue. ?Nothing like this has ever happened before.?
Early yesterday afternoon what seemed like 200 motorcycles lined the street, Dicorcia said. Residents had put a portable toilet in the driveway of a two-family home at 56-58 Stanley Ave., and a number of tattooed individuals in leather biker jackets were outside partying.
Dicorcia said she believed the party was for a friend of the group who was recently released from prison.
?They weren?t loud ? well, the bikes were loud,? said Dicorcia. ?But it would have been nice to know the street would have been blocked off.?
Police said three members of the Devil?s Disciples supposedly rode past the party, where between 20 and 40 motorcycles were parked. Shortly after, police in an unmarked cruiser followed several of the Angels, including Collins, to the Getty station at 151 Main St.
Collins then allegedly removed his helmet, using it to strike an unnamed victim in the head. Collins then allegedly stomped on the man, believed to be a member of the Disciples, with his boots.
Police said they detained Collins at around 4:30 p.m. and the other cyclists fled the scene.
As of MOnday morning, the portable toilet, a stack of fold-up chairs and a police report were the only traces the Angels left behind.
